Robin Almich, President, Senior Partner | robin@almichcpa.com

Robin joined Arthur Andersen & Co. in 1977. Robin was promoted to Audit Manager in 1981. In 1981, Robin left Arthur Andersen & Co. and operated his own practice until 1986, when he joined Williamson & Associates (later merged with BDO Seidman) where he held the position of Senior Audit Manager. In 1989, Robin joined Corbin & Wertz as Managing Partner of their San Diego office and was promoted to Managing Partner at the corporate office in Irvine, CA. During this time, Robin was actively involved in engagements with postsecondary education organizations. In 1992, Robin co-founded Almich & Associates.

Since co-founding Almich & Associates in 1992, Robin has been involved for over 20 years in engagements with postsecondary educational organizations. As a result Robin has significant expertise in educational institution’s financial statement and compliance audits, due diligence, and numerous regulatory compliance matters, as well as acquisition transactions.

Robin graduated from California State University at Fullerton in June 1977, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting.

Robin is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Robin is regularly invited to participate on conference panels and as a speaker on all areas of higher education institution financial responsibility, including 90/10 and composite score compliance requirements, as well as financial valuation guidance.

John Lavery, Consulting Partner | john@almichcpa.com

John has over 30 years' experience in the for-profit education industry. Prior to co-founding Almich & Associates in 1992, John held several management positions in postsecondary education organizations including the positions of Controller, School President, Regional Manager, and V.P. of Finance and Operations of a consolidated group of educational institutions with revenue of $150 million, employing 4,500 people in 52 campuses nationwide. With this expertise, John not only has a strong financial understanding of the educational industry, but also is extremely knowledgeable in the operational and administrative components of educational institutions.

Since co-founding Almich & Associates in 1992, John has been involved for over 20 years in educational organization purchase and sale transactions. As a result, John also has significant experience in educational mergers, acquisitions, and due diligence.

John received his Bachelor's of Administration degree from Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio in 1974 in business, finance and accounting.

Linda Cooley, Compliance Partner | linda@almichcpa.com

Linda joined Almich & Associates in 1992 and has over 30 years’ experience in higher education, including both traditional and private career colleges. Prior to joining Almich & Associates, Linda held several management positions in private for-profit and non-profit postsecondary educational organizations, including Corporate Director of Financial Aid for a group operating over 40 postsecondary institutions nationwide. Linda has been an active speaker for CASFAA and several other postsecondary institution associations. Linda has been a trainer for the U.S. Department of Education in the area of student financial aid compliance.

Since joining Almich & Associates in 1992, Linda has been involved in over 900 engagements with postsecondary educational organizations. As a result Linda has significant expertise in private postsecondary educational institutions’ compliance audits; non-profit educational institutions’ audits as required under the Single Audit Act; Title IV compliance due diligence, and numerous regulatory compliance matters. Linda is considered to be one of the foremost experts in the country with respect to student financial aid programs and compliance as well as in the areas of government regulations within the postsecondary education sectors.

Linda obtained her Bachelor's of Administration degree from the University of California at Riverside. She also obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University where she wrote her thesis on “Government Regulation within the Private Career School Industry”.

Jack Woll, Partner in Charge of Audit - Managing Partner | jack@almichcpa.com

Prior to joining Almich & Associates in 1995, Jack was a Senior Manager in Arthur Andersen’s accounting and audit practice in their Orange County office where he was involved in servicing clients in a variety of industries, including health care and non-profit organizations. Jack was involved in purchase investigations, mergers and acquisitions, initial and secondary public offerings, tax-exempt debt financings, as well as numerous audit engagements.

Since joining Almich & Associates in 1995, Jack has been involved in over 750 engagements with postsecondary educational organizations. As a result Jack has significant expertise in educational institutions’ financial statement and compliance audits; non-profit educational institutions’ audits as required under the Single Audit Act; and numerous regulatory compliance matters.

Jack is a 1982 cum laude graduate of The Ohio State University and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. Jack is also a member of the Statewide Committee on Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Ryan Malouf, Audit Partner | ryan@almichcpa.com

Ryan graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics with an emphasis in Accounting. He joined Almich & Associates in January 2003 and became a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of California two years later.

Since joining the firm, Ryan has worked to service clients in various industries including education, health care and nonprofit organizations, while also obtaining substantial experience in various purchase transactions including stock, net asset valuation and recapitalization accounting. In addition to his partner role on all firm retirement plan audits, Ryan serves as the designated partner under the firm’s membership in the AICPA's Audit Quality Centers for Employee Benefit Plan's and Governmental Audits. Ryan is a member of the AICPA and California State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

When outside of the office, Ryan can be found traveling and camping with his family and friends. In addition to his lifelong hobbies of boating and motorcycles, Ryan became a licensed private pilot in 2013. Currently residing in Orange County, Ryan was born and raised in San Dimas, California and remains a loyal Dodger fan through the good times and bad.

James Bermudez, Tax Partner | jamesb@almichcpa.com

Prior to joining Almich & Associates, James was employed by Arthur Andersen, initially in the audit department, then transferring to the tax department, where he held the position of Senior Tax Manager. During his 11 years with Arthur Andersen, James worked with service-oriented companies, including educational institutions and banks, as well as many other companies in a variety of industries.

James joined Almich & Associates in 2001 as the partner in charge of tax. James has supervised the growth of the tax department to serve the needs of a variety of client types and business. James has served many of his clients since his days with Arthur Andersen. James is experienced in the planning for and preparation of income taxes for closely-held businesses of all types - corporations (both “C” and “S”), partnerships and limited liability companies, sole proprietorships – and their owners, as well as individuals and tax-exempt organizations. James has also been involved in over 250 engagements with postsecondary educational organizations. As a result, James has significant expertise in tax structuring, mergers and acquisitions, and the tax impact of federal and state regulations on educational entities.

James graduated from California State University at Long Beach in 1989 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in accounting and earned a Master's degree in taxation from Golden Gate University. James is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

When not working with clients, James enjoys spending time camping with his family,  and can usually be found training for his next marathon.

Joe Archer, Transaction & Advisory Services Partner | joe@almichcpa.com

Joe graduated from the California State University, Long Beach in 1996 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Accounting and joined Almich & Associates in 1997. Since joining Almich & Associates Joe has held the positions of Staff Accountant, Senior Accountant, Manager, Senior Manager and was promoted to Partner in 2005.

Since joining Almich & Associates in 1997, Joe has been involved in over 400 engagements with postsecondary educational organizations. As a result Joe has significant expertise in educational institutions’ financial statement audits, non-profit educational institutions’ audits as required under the Single Audit Act, educational mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, and numerous regulatory compliance matters, such as Gainful Employment and “90/10”.

Joe is licensed to practice as a CPA in the State of California and is a member in good standing of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Audrey Pan, Senior Audit Manager | audrey@almichcpa.com

Audrey graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics in 2005 from the University of California, Los Angeles. Audrey has worked on some of Almich & Associates’ largest clients with key engagements in various industries including education, health care and nonprofit organizations. Audrey is licensed to practice as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of California and is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

When not working with clients, Audrey enjoys discovering new cuisines, spending time with her family, and taking long walks with her two dogs.

Euri Yoo, Tax Manager | euri@almichcpa.com

Euri graduated from California State University, Northridge in 2005 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Accountancy. Upon graduation, Euri joined Almich & Associates. Euri is a licensed CPA in California and is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Euri has extensive experience in tax planning and tax compliance for high net-worth individuals, trusts and estates, consolidated corporations, multi-state companies, pass-through entities, and tax-exempt organizations. Euri has also been involved in tax consulting for a variety of issues, including mergers and acquisitions, state nexus and apportionment reviews, and other special projects.

When it's not tax season, Euri enjoys travelling and watching the Lakers.

Michael Kean, Audit Manager | michael@almichcpa.com

Mike graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 2008 with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Economics and minor in Accounting. Mike joined the firm in July 2009 and has worked to provide efficient and well organized audits to clients in various industries including education, health care and nonprofit organizations. He is also experienced in audits of change of ownership opening balances sheets and employee retirement plans. Mike obtained his CPA license in August 2012 and is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys following basketball, baseball and football, snowboarding, the beach, trying new foods, and travelling.

Rebecca Sanders, Senior Manager | rebecca@almichcpa.com

Rebecca graduated from Arizona State University in 2002 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Accountancy.  Rebecca obtained her Master's in Business Administration degree from University of Phoenix’s ground campus in Phoenix, Arizona in 2011.  Rebecca is a CPA licensed in Arizona.  Prior to joining the firm, Rebecca was a senior auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers and worked for two of the largest proprietary postsecondary educational organizations and has experience in Title IV compliance and reporting including Program Reviews, Gainful Employment, “90/10”, consumer disclosures, E-Apps, IPEDS and more. 

When not working, Rebecca enjoys traveling, scuba diving, hiking, spending time with her family and her two dogs.

Athena Ledbetter, Compliance Manager | athena@almichcpa.com

Athena graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 1998 with a Bachelor’s of Art degree in Psychology.  Prior to joining Almich & Associates in 2005, Athena worked in the financial aid offices of El Camino College, University of California, Irvine, and Hope International University as an advisor and assistant manager.  Through her diligent work with previous employers and current tenure at Almich and Associates, Athena has obtained significant technical knowledge of Title IV regulations for nonprofit and for-profit postsecondary institutions. 

When not traveling for work, Athena and her husband enjoy spending time with their 2 little girls, discovering authentic Asian cuisine, and vacationing in Hawaii.
